Having started a new online shoe store to compete with Zappos.com, this client needed an array of tools to operate their emerging business line. With a completely new supply chain model, the tools used in other parts of the company weren't applicable, and shoe store-specific needs included enabling five-to-ten planners to work simultaneously, planning the purchases of each style, color, and size. Several reports were also needed in order to roll data up for management review and communicate plans to vendors. Time was of the essence.
Given the client’s familiarity with Excel, eAlchemy used the application as the front-end, supported by a back-end Access database. The intuitive Excel interface ensured end users would enjoy ease of interaction in an environment with which the team was comfortable, while the Access-based data warehouse (and a phased plan to upgrade to SQL Server) created a single point of data management and backup.

This client had originally built an Access-based lot-tracking system for their mushroom production facility. While reasonably sophisticated, the application had originally been built by a self-taught resource. Although it was an admirable effort, the application exhibited numerous data tracking issues and was becoming slow and unstable as a result of out-growing Access’s intended use.
eAlchemy assisted in migrating the data to a SQL Server database, facilitating automated data collection for their remote environment sensors. During the process, we revised many of the forms, improving data integrity and reliability. These changes not only improved reliability, but increased reporting capabilities and enabled more secure backup of the clients data, avoiding a potential nightmare data loss in a business-critical application.

eAlchemy pioneered a creative new algorithm to score potential candidates by incorporating several factors, from the prestige of their colleges and employers to the previous evaluations of other recruiters. We also helped access vast amounts of additional data from disparate sources, de-duplicating and cleansing data throughout the process. These efforts helped reduce the labor necessary to fill positions by nearly 25%.
